So the problem regarding SQ. When I play the files on VLC they are vibrant, lively and intense. On the other hand, when I play the exact same file using Audirvana the sound seems a bit flat and distant. I think a good way of explaining it the VLC playback I am right in between the music, it hits me right in the face or ears , but with Audirvana it feels a bit distant. I am thinking maybe it has something to do with the settings.. Any suggestions? It just feels like my experience is different from everybody elses.

At least from what I have read. EDIT: also I am having a hard time believing a free app sounds better than an audiophile player. Do you have any non-default settings in VLC? Did you volume-match the AB test? Are you using any filters in Audirvana? Are you using DAC hog mode in Audirvana? There are many settings in both programs, any one of which might explain differences. We need more info. Hey, Thanks for your reply. SysOptimizer Everything selected on Extreme. I am not entirely sure what you mean by DAC Hog mode. And apart from hearing, how do I confirm if they are volume matched? I am not changing anything apart from switching apps basically. DAC hog mode is called exclusive mode in Audirvana. Make sure that is selected. Yes, exclusive access, direct mode and integer mode all selected.

Joined Jan 19, Posts Likes I am not knocking audirvana as I do love it. BUT, is there another program of equal audio quality that offers a few more user friendly features like: 1. Recently Added Music 2. Visual artist browsing similar to iTunes Nothing again the "power-user" interface of audirvana.

It works and it works very well. Just not my cup of tea Those would be the main features I am looking for. But, not willing to trade down to lesser quality app. I rather stick with audirvana in that case. I must say the SQ change is really obvious. There is more detail as the most apparent change. I am comparing 1. I will post back here with more listening, but so far I like it. The Album View is close to iTunes standard so I am happy with that. I miss view by date added, but will accept that for the jump in SQ on offer.

I find that ridiculous. A hifi fuse would cost more I agree with folk here, the iPad app would be really cool, if and when it comes out.

I know a few users who would buy the app if it was as easy to use as iTunes with Apple Remote. Version 2 is really great! The clarity is better, it sounds like I am closer to the source somehow. Dynamics and slam are lightning fast. Everything is faster. I think version 1. But in my setup I like the pace and closeness of the sound I am getting right now.

I will try and explain my observations 1. High to very high frequency detail is clearer and cleaner. It has no grain - just more detail 2. Restart Mac, that will seal all your preferences and library as a working soft. I do that everyday when i add music to it or change my prefs. After all that and still working good, try Tidal or others. Thanks for the advice.

I will try that if the problem continues. Saving the prefs everyday is a good idea too! I wound up getting things to work late last night. It was strange. My DAC stopped being recognized by my Mac. I finally wound up switching USB ports on the Mac and that did the trick. No idea why it just stopped working. It happened to me once before but I just unplugged the cord a few times and plugged it back into the same port and it worked.

I was already running I had Direct mode and choice of integer modes and I elected to use integer mode 1 provisionally and then to try mode 2 after a few days. After taking up the Tidal free trial on the 14th I noticed a distinct fall off in SQ generally. I decided that because I was not enjoying the library music so much as I had at time of purchase I should try integer mode 2 but it and Direct Mode had gone.

The only thing which I had done were the Tidal sign up and played some DSD files which my DAC claimed not to be able to play but I do not see how these could have any bearing on the disappearance of Direct Mode. I am tearing what remains of my hair out. I should add that I have since updated to The workaround is to unplug and re-plug in my DAC.

That resets things and I am able to select and play a different album or song. It works, but it is not an ideal solution. I would love to find a permanent solution to the problem.

Any more ideas or suggestions would be most welcomed.
